Improving Your Car

Do you remember the first time you got a new car? My first vehicle was a hand-me-down from my parents, and although it wasn't the nicest car, it was all I needed to get out on the town and enjoy a night out with my friends. Over time, I became quite the car enthusiast, and I learned how to make things right one problem at a time. It was incredible to see how much of a difference my efforts made, and within no time, I really felt like I had a handle on my vehicle. This blog is all about automotive care. Check it out!

Car Has A Cracked Windshield Due To Accident? Why Should Call A Tow Truck Company

If you are in a wreck and your car has a cracked windshield, you should consider getting the car towed even if it is drivable. Below are some reasons this is so you can keep your car in great condition keep you protected. This can also make your repair bills much larger if a mechanic has to replace an entire windshield instead of repairing the crack.

Stops Cracks from Becoming Worse If It Rains

Even if it is sunny outside you never know when it will start raining. If you are driving your car, the rain could damage the windshield if it is has a crack on it. This is especially true if it starts raining very bad, as the rain puts a lot of pressure on the windshield and the crack could easily grow quickly. If you continue driving, the windshield could even completely shatter.

Causes Less Structural Strength

A windshield in good shape helps keep you safe if you are in a wreck. For example, if you are in a wreck and your car rolls over, the windshield can support your car, which lessens the chances of the roof crashing in during the accident.  If you are in a front-end collision, the windshield on your car provides structural strength. When you have a crack, this support and structural strength is greatly decreased, which is dangerous for you.

Can Damage Airbag

When you are in a wreck the passenger air bag may go off. When this happens, the airbag pushes up towards the windshield. The windshield then keeps the airbag inside the car so it can protect the passenger. If the windshield is cracked, it could damage the airbag when it hits the windshield, which means it would not protect you as well. You could then hit the windshield with your head or even fly out of the car if the windshield shatters completely.

Protects You from Debris

If you have a crack in your windshield and debris hits it while you are driving down the road, the windshield could shatter, depending on how large the crack is and where the debris hits. It could also make the crack immediately spread across the windshield obstructing your view, which could result in a wreck.

A tow truck driver can get to you quickly after you have a wreck to get your car to a repair shop. Check with your insurance company, as they may help you pay for the tow truck charges.
